(NABA) Guidelines for Recruiting at the University of IllinoisPreamble and Objectives We endorse the National Association of Colleges and Employers' "Principles for Professional Conduct for Career Services and Employment Professionals" which provides a framework for professional relationships among colleges/universities, employing organizations, and candidates. "These principles are designed to provide practitioners with three basic precepts for career planning, placement, and recruitment: *To maintain an open and free selection of employment opportunities in an atmosphere conducive to objective thought, where job candidates can choose optimum long-term uses of their talents that are consistent with personal objectives and all relevant facts; *To maintain a recruitment process that is fair and equitable to candidates and employing organizations; *To support informed and responsible decision-making by candidates." The following guidelines are intended to support these principles and ensure that undue pressure is not placed on students by employing organizations. We recognize that students should have the opportunity to investigate all employment options of interest to them when making their career decisions. The College of Business at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has a special interest in establishing an atmosphere in which informed decisions can be made. To that end, students are encouraged to contact employers if they have any questions. In turn, students should expect that they may receive questions from employers. Both students and employers are encouraged to call Business Career Services, (217) 333-2840 if they have any concerns, problems or unusual experiences with the process. Campus Interviews, Office Visits, OffersFull-time Positions: Full-time job offers may be extended at any time, but students should not be asked to make a decision prior to December 1st of the academic year of their graduation. All job-offer letters should clearly state that the offer of employment remains in place at least until this deadline. Internships:
Offers for summer internships should not be extended before the end of
final examination week of the fall semester and should not be withdrawn
before April 1st. All intern offer letters should clearly state that the
offer of employment remains in place at least until this deadline.
